How the heck do you play Candyland?

My family and I are on vacation, and we just borrowed Candyland from the lobby. There are no instructions and we're pretty sure were playing it wrong.
Can someone please explain this to us?

1. Stack all the cards together in a pile. Make sure the cards are face down so no player can see what they will pick up off of the top of the deck.
2. Draw a card and move to the closest corresponding color. If you draw a blue card, move to the closest blue space on the board. If you happen to draw a snowflake, go to Queen Frostine's palace.
3. Beware of occasional obstacles. If you land on the wrong square, you might get stuck in Molasses Swamp until a red card is drawn.
4. Continue until you reach the end. Always be patient with young players. They are learning vital skills of cooperation and sharing. Your children might be unhappy that they didn't win, so remind them that they are all winners in your book.
